Dr. Annie Murphy is a marine ecosystem ecologist with over 15 years of experience assessing benthic ecological responses to anthropogenic-driven changes in the marine environment. Her expertise lies at the interface between benthic community ecology and sediment biogeochemistry with a specific interest in the response of aquatic ecosystems to organic matter enrichment and physical disturbance. After completing her doctorate at Virginia Institute of Marine Science College of William and Mary and a postdoc at Northeastern, Dr. Murphy joined INSPIRE Environmental as a senior scientist. Dr. Murphy’s experience ranges from investigating the ecological effects of aquaculture in coastal and offshore environments, the influence of nutrient enrichment on nitrogen and carbon cycling in salt marshes, and the shift in microbial community dynamics in salt marshes along an urbanization gradient. More recently, Dr. Murphy has been designing and executing research and monitoring programs aimed at understanding the ecology and multi-faceted function and value of coastal and offshore benthic (seafloor) habitats, and how these may be affected by expansive offshore wind development.
