Cristian Graupe, Ph.D., Senior Scientist Marine Acoustics is an ocean acoustic scientist with expertise in acoustic propagation modelling, acoustic data collection, bioacoustics, and signal processing. With over 8 years of ocean acoustic modelling experience, he has specialized expertise in simulating the sound field generated by complex acoustic sources in atmospheric and marine environments. He has also taught senior-level engineering courses at the University of Rhode Island covering introductory topics in underwater acoustics and is a member of the Science Advisory Panel for the educational website “Discovery of Sound in the Sea” (dosits.org). At Venterra, Dr. Graupe leads the development of 3D spectral element models, acoustic propagation models, and animal noise exposure models to assess the noise levels generated by anthropogenic activities and their potential impact on various marine or terrestrial species. He has led field operations to assess wind farm construction noise and authored numerous reports assessing sound field measurements against regulatory thresholds in the Northeast US. Drawing from his background using acoustics to navigate autonomous underwater vehicles and over 8 years of experience collecting marine acoustic data, Dr. Graupe applies his expertise to support marine conservation and noise mitigation strategies in offshore wind.
