Finley Corbett is an early career research engineer at the University of New Brunswick. He holds an MSc degree in Mechanical Engineering, awarded in May 2025, and specializes in applying Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to marine turbomachinery. Finley’s main research projects specifically include strategies to improve tidal turbine performance at the root, as well as CFD-based shape optimization for marine propellers. This work was recently captured in two conference papers which have been accepted for publication in the 2025 Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering (CSME) conference proceedings. In Finley’s presentation at the MRC, he will provide some key conclusions made from a 3D parametric CFD study of a tidal turbine hub retrofit. He will also discuss his current work aimed at further improving tidal turbine efficiency using a 2D CFD-based design optimization approach.
