Jack is an Associate Scientist at Sea Mammal Research Unit (SMRU) Consulting (SMRUC), working across a wide range of projects that support the sustainable management of marine infrastructure developments and the mitigation-monitoring of impacts on marine mammals. At SMRUC, Jack has contributed to Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) for offshore wind, port, and harbour developments across the UK, Ireland, and the USA. His work focuses on identifying and mitigating potential impact pathways on marine mammal populations, and he is actively involved in acoustic survey design and coordination, including the deployment of SMRUC’s Communications Acoustics Buoy (CAB) for baseline characterisation and mitigation-monitoring purposes.
Jack has delivered numerous industry-funded projects and his expertise extends to analytical assessments, including population trajectory modelling using the iPCoD model and cumulative impact analyses for offshore wind developments. With a strong background in marine mammal ecology and applied marine science, Jack works closely with a diverse network of industry stakeholders, synthesising perspectives to develop design balanced, evidence-based solutions that advance both conservation and industry objectives.
At the conference, Jack will share insights from his recent work on marine mammal mitigation and monitoring in offshore developments, offering practical perspectives on advancing sustainable marine industry practices.
