Dr. Nickitas Georgas main area of interest is weather and climate resilience and adaptation. He is an experienced professional, product and portfolio manager, and academic with a demonstrated history of achievements in:
• Ocean and Environmental Engineering consulting,
• Developing multi-hazard weather & climate risk analytics, and
• Leading an academic research facility and portfolio.
As a Principal Scientist at RPS/Tetra Tech Ocean Sciences he leads a team of oceanographers and ocean engineers, coastal modeling, met-ocean studies and hydrodynamic and wave modeling projects. He has 26 years of expertise in developing numerical models in Oceanography, Environmental Engineering, and Water Resources for scenario planning and environmental solutions in the US, Pacific Islands and territories, and internationally. His main areas of expertise are estuarine and coastal ocean dynamics, dynamic meteorology, development, validation and verification of numerical models, numerical and statistical downscaling of climate and weather forecast models, ensembles, extreme event data analysis, and operational compound flood forecasting systems at the street scale. He has given hundreds of talks and presentations, including at the WMO, NSF, NASEM, multiple NOAA workshops, and at Emergency Operations Centers during hazardous weather events. His work has been presented in print and TV media.
