Patrick Butler is the Senior Mi’kmaq Energy & Mines Advisor at Kwilmu’kw Mawklusuaqn(KMK). He is a band member of Potlotek First Nation and joined the team at KMK in August 2020. As the Energy & Mines Advisor, Patrick works on the Consultation Team and oversees the energy, mining and offshore files. As a member of the Consultation team, Patrick coordinates and facilitates Consultation between the Mi’kmaq and the Crown and informs how these projects could impact the Mi’kmaq’s Section 35 Rights.
Previous to joining KMK, Patrick worked on Sustainable Marine Energy’s demonstration tidal energy project in Grand Passage as a Technician and for his community of Potlotek as a Fishery Guardian. He envisions a Mi’kmaw led renewable energy future for his and all Mi’kmaw Communities as we work towards a NetZero Future in Mi’kmaki.
