Dr. Paul Ibanez received his doctorate degree from UCLA in experimental techniques for evaluating structural dynamics and has been involved since 1973 in creating dynamic testing systems and techniques for critical structures. He has been president of ANCO Engineers, Inc. since 1988 and has helped design and deliver over 200 laboratory and in-situ vibration testing systems worldwide. This includes working with Boaz Norton of ANCO Engineers, Inc., and Professors Timothy Newson and Aly Ahmed of the University of Western Ontario to produce a geotechnical wave simulator that will be described in an upcoming paper. At the MRC2025 Conference, Paul will present the principles of wave generation within a geotechnical centrifuge and introduce a newly developed active fluid wave generation system in the large drum centrifuge at The University of Western Ontario. Modeling wave-induced forces on offshore wind turbine structures in shallow water is an application that will be explored using this new system.
