Theofano (Fani) Koutrouveli is a Chartered Civil Engineer (CEng, Technical Chamber of Greece) since 2010, with more than a decade of academic and professional experience spanning structural, hydraulic, coastal, and offshore engineering. She holds a five-year diploma in Civil Engineering (equivalent to an MEng) from the University of Patras (UoP), Greece, specializing in Structural Engineering. She further obtained an MSc in Water Resources and Environment in 2012, with a thesis focused on Hydraulic and River Engineering. In 2018, she completed a PhD in Coastal Engineering at UoP, specializing in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modelling and coastal and near-shore processes such as wave transformation, currents, turbulence, and wave overtopping. Fani joined IMDC in October 2018, where she has applied her multidisciplinary background to a wide range of projects.

Her early work included large-scale hydrodynamic and morphodynamic modelling, dredging studies in long rivers, and hydrodynamic assessments of water recirculation and renewal in coastal bays. She also worked extensively with CFD applications, contributing to force estimation on coastal structures, performance evaluation of wave energy converters, and stability assessments of filter layers under wave and tidal loading using tools such as ANSYS FLUENT and OpenFoam. Over the last three years, Fani has increasingly focused on project management and business development, particularly in offshore wind and subsea cable/interconnector projects. Her management experience covers FSRU/LNG terminal studies, environmental assessments of propeller-induced scour, analyses of cable and interconnector damage mechanisms, and the design of scour protection measures. She has also led root-cause analyses of cable protection system defects, covering procurement processes, employer requirements, installation practices, and protection design.

Additionally, she has been responsible for all IMDC projects related to the design and testing of reliable systems for plastic waste collection in rivers and waterways.
