Dr. Anna Redden is a marine ecology professor in the Biology Dept at Acadia University. Over the last 2 decades, Anna’s research efforts in the Bay of Fundy have focused on marine life monitoring and environmental effects of tidal energy development. Her research with colleagues and research students includes acoustic detection and tracking of several fish species of concern, and harbour porpoise detection studies conducted in collaboration with FORCE and SMRU Ltd. She has authored or co-authored >90 primary publications, technical reports, and review papers. Anna has served as an independent member on both the Board of FORCE (2009-2016) and the Board of the Offshore Energy Research Association of Nova Scotia (2017-2022). She and her colleagues at Acadia founded the Fundy Energy Research Network (est. 2010; reignited 2025). In 2011, she co-founded and co-chaired the Acadia Tidal Energy Institute. From 2017-2023, Anna was the lead administrator of Acadia’s Research, Innovation and Graduate Studies Office. She is currently leading an NRCan OERD-EIP tidal energy enabling project, Reducing fish-turbine collision risk uncertainty in the Minas Passage, Bay of Fundy.
