Dr. Freeman Ralph joined C-CORE in 1999, and is presently VP Oceans and Energy having over 25 years of offshore oil and gas and alternative energy expertise. Originating from Port de Grave, Freeman has a strong interest and ties to Newfoundland’s fishing and marine industry. He holds three degrees from Memorial University including a bachelors degree in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, a masters degree in ship ice interaction modeling, and a doctorate degree focused on ships and offshore structures, exposure and probabilistic design methods, and ice mechanics. His experience includes: Offshore structure and ship design; environment characterization and design basis, risk analysis and probabilistic methods including extreme event and risk mitigation modeling; iceberg and sea ice design loads; icing occurrence, mitigation and operations interruption, design and protection of subsea infrastructure including geotechnical foundation and mooring considerations.
Freeman serves as a member of the OceansAdvance Board of Directors, Co-Chair of the Arctic Committee for American Petroleum Institute (API) offshore design rules, a member of the International Ship Structures Congress (ISSC) for wind energy development. Freeman is a registered professional engineer in the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador and a member of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME).
