Mariya Summerfield is an Associate in WSP’s Offshore Renewables team with over a decade of international experience in the UK, Denmark, and Canada. Her expertise lies in commercial fisheries liaison, stakeholder engagement, and Nature Inclusive Design (NID), shaping emerging approaches to integrate biodiversity enhancement into offshore infrastructure.
She has contributed to projects such as MarramWind, Hinkley Point C, and EirGrid’s offshore NID programme, combining regulatory understanding with delivery across environmental assessments, marine licence support, and engagement with regulators, industry, and local communities. Mariya also brings policy experience from her years with the Danish Fisheries Agency, representing Denmark at the European Commission and the European Fisheries Control Agency.
Her current focus is advancing Nature Inclusive Design — developing tools, strategies, and collaborations that bridge science, policy, and industry needs to deliver practical, nature-positive solutions for the offshore renewables sector. She is also leading work on AI-enabled biodiversity monitoring, demonstrating how digital innovation can transform marine environmental management.
