Dr Steven Benjamins is a marine ecologist whose work focuses on evaluating and mitigating marine industrial impacts on marine megafauna, notably marine mammals and elasmobranchs. He has extensive experience assessing distribution, relative abundance and habitat use of these species, with particular emphasis on interactions with offshore renewable energy infrastructure, commercial fisheries and aquaculture. He also has valuable expertise in undertaking status assessments for marine species and habitats, and is a member of the Scottish Government’s Marine Energy Research (ScotMER) ‘marine mammals’ receptor group.
